network infrastructures, troubleshoot software systems and answer
technical questions from end users. In today's market, the information
technology profession can be very competitive, therefore a solid

essential in securing a job in this industry.
Computer Software Engineer
According to a company's specific business applications, a computer
software engineer will research, design, test and develop network and
operating systems software. A computer software engineer is also
responsible for analyzing software application requirements, performing
network reporting of software solutions and completing database
development for end users. Depending on the size of the organization, a
computer software engineer also may manage a team of software
specialists to implement and complete new network software projects.
Network Administrator A
network administrator is responsible for maintaining an organization's
local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), Internet, intranet
and network security applications. A network administrator also
designs, installs, sustains network hardware/software and supports a
company's computer network system. Depending on the size of a company's
networking computer system, a network administrator may provide data
reporting on network usage, analyze network and monitor company network activity.
Computer Support Specialist
A computer support specialist supports an organization's information
technology policies and practices by providing technical services to
end users. Depending on the size of the company, a computer support
specialist could be responsible for help desk support and/or technical
support. A help desk computer support specialist assists end users via
phone by troubleshooting, diagnosing technical issues and providing
solutions to computer problems. A technical computer support specialist
is responsible for solving technical computer problems by installing
and repairing hardware/software applications.
Database Administrator
A
database administrator maintains, supervises and tests an
organization's database management system. A database administrator
also schedules and oversees the installation, modifications and changes
to a company's database management system. Depending on the size of an
organization's network and database system, a database administrator
may manage a team of database specialists for special projects and
implementations. A database administrator must have extensive knowledge
in database management systems and be able to train end users on
policies and procedures.
